About the Project
Bullock Island's Recreational Project, managed by East Gippsland Shire Council, will see the development of the recreational area on the island - and it has now obtained funding.
In recognition of multiple stakeholders with an interest in the project and multiple projects in the pipeline being undertaken by other organisations on the Island, a need has been identified to co-ordinate activities.
A concept masterplan was adopted by Council in 2015 to form the basis of the development of the recreational area on Bullock Island.
Below is a list of activities which will flow from the master plan:
The installation of drainage, signage and bollards throughout the activity area
Installation and upgrading of telecommunication, power, sewerage and water services where required
Upgrading of the existing Bullock Island Road
Construction of carparks with 135 parking bays
Installation of art throughout
The construction of fishing areas/platforms
Ongoing landscaping, maintenance, repair/upgrading and replacement of infrastructure including bollards, seating, picnic facilities, footpaths, where and when required.
Funding for this project was provided by the Australian Government and East Gippsland Shire Council.

Roadworks on Bullock Island are now complete.
Council contractors, Whelans Group Investments, completed the roadworks component of the Bullock Island Master Plan Implementation project on Thursday 17 August 2023.
Line marking will soon follow, together with the installation of the remaining concrete paths and street furniture. Solar powered overhead lighting will be installed over the coming weeks to improve pedestrian and road user safety throughout the precinct.
We extend our gratitude to the community for their patience and understanding while we have undertaken these works, and to the following businesses who were affected by road closures and delays - thank you.

The beautiful sunny weather on the weekend enticed many of our community members to visit the island and enjoy the new facilities. Recycled plastic street furniture has arrived and will be installed over the next week. As footpaths are completed over the next few weeks, more areas will be open to the public to enjoy.
Please remember to follow site signage and do not enter areas closed off which are still under construction; for the safety of everyone, please do not enter these areas as they contain construction materials and have trip hazards.

NOTICE OF ROAD CLOSURE
Bullock Island carparks and access road will be closed from Monday 5 June and re-opening Friday 3July 2023. Lakes Entrance Fishermen Limited, Gippsland Ports Boat Yard, and TAFE will not be impacted by these closures and will be trading as normal during this time.
Works associated with the Bullock Island Masterplan Implementation project require the alignment and levels of the existing roads and carparks to be dramatically altered. During these alteration works, access to the areas marked with an X in the diagram will be restricted to construction related heavy earthmoving machinery.
Future closure notifications will be issued via media release and signage at the entrance to Bullock Island. These closures will ensure we complete the work as quickly as possible.
Visitors to the area are asked to observe the construction site signage and any directions from the contractor including following traffic management direction in the precinct during the works.
