About the Project

Bullock Island's Recreational Project, managed by East Gippsland Shire Council, will see the development of the recreational area on the island - and it has now obtained funding.

In recognition of multiple stakeholders with an interest in the project and multiple projects in the pipeline being undertaken by other organisations on the Island, a need has been identified to co-ordinate activities.

A concept masterplan was adopted by Council in 2015 to form the basis of the development of the recreational area on Bullock Island.

Below is a list of activities which will flow from the master plan:

  • The installation of drainage, signage and bollards throughout the activity area
  • Installation and upgrading of telecommunication, power, sewerage and water services where required
  • Upgrading of the existing Bullock Island Road
  • Construction of carparks with 135 parking bays
  • Installation of art throughout
  • The construction of fishing areas/platforms
  • Ongoing landscaping, maintenance, repair/upgrading and replacement of infrastructure including bollards, seating, picnic facilities, footpaths, where and when required.

Funding for this project was provided by the Australian Government and East Gippsland Shire Council.

What happened to the protruding deck and dolphin statues near north arm entrance as shown on you display board

    Yt asked 8 months ago

    Hi Yt

thank you for your interest in this project and taking the time to ask a question.   The protruding deck and dolphin statues near north arm entrance were part of the concept design. Unfortunately, the construction of the protruding deck could not be undertaken due to Gippsland Ports access requirements. Gippsland Ports have sand transfer valves and pipes located behind the seawall which require maintenance on a regular basis; this maintenance requires permanent access for cranes and trucks and as such the protruding deck could not be constructed.

The final design of any project may vary from the initial concept design for several reasons; during the development of the final design and implementation of construction stages, various factors can influence changes to the original concept. Some common reasons for differences between the concept design and the final design include technical constraints, budgetary considerations, stakeholder feedback, regulatory requirements, and evolving needs and preferences. The adaptation of the plans to changing circumstances ensures the final product remains relevant, functional, and cost effective.

Thank you for your understanding of the potential variations between the concept and final designs in a project. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to ask!

    Warm regards,

    Sally
