About the Project

Bullock Island's Recreational Project, managed by East Gippsland Shire Council, will see the development of the recreational area on the island - and it has now obtained funding.

In recognition of multiple stakeholders with an interest in the project and multiple projects in the pipeline being undertaken by other organisations on the Island, a need has been identified to co-ordinate activities.

A concept masterplan was adopted by Council in 2015 to form the basis of the development of the recreational area on Bullock Island.

Below is a list of activities which will flow from the master plan:

  • The installation of drainage, signage and bollards throughout the activity area
  • Installation and upgrading of telecommunication, power, sewerage and water services where required
  • Upgrading of the existing Bullock Island Road
  • Construction of carparks with 135 parking bays
  • Installation of art throughout
  • The construction of fishing areas/platforms
  • Ongoing landscaping, maintenance, repair/upgrading and replacement of infrastructure including bollards, seating, picnic facilities, footpaths, where and when required.

The funding for the works is provided by Council and the Federal Government.

    NOTICE OF FUTURE ROAD CLOSURE

Works on the Bullock Island Masterplan Implementation begin on Wednesday 8 March 2023, with our contractors mobilising to the site.

This will not impact long weekend (11-13 March 2023) access within Bullock Island.

The project is expected to take five months to complete and will include:

    • Public toilets
    • Trails, signage and artwork
    • Barbecues, seating and picnic areas
    • Fishing areas and landscaping
    • Road and car park upgrades

There will be rolling road closures during the project, in particular the old sandblasting jetty car park and the southern carpark, which both require major upgrades. We will provide notification in advance of any road closures. These closures will ensure we complete the work as quickly as possible.

Once exact closure dates are known, further closure notifications will be issued via media release and signage at the entrance to Bullock Island. Council apologises for any inconvenience and asks for your patience and consideration during this time.

Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Sean Heinemann, Project Supervisor on 03 5153 9500.
