Bairnsdale Airport - Air Ambulance Transfer Facility
The construction of a Patient Transfer Facility for Air Ambulance Victoria was highlighted as a priority in the Bairnsdale Airport Masterplan 2020.
Bairnsdale Aerodrome handles the highest number of fixed wing aeromedical retrievals by Air Ambulance Victoria (AAV) in regional Victoria, with aircraft visiting Bairnsdale as often as two to three times a day for patient transfers. The Patient Transfer Facility Plan for Mildura Airport has been provided to Council for guidance, and AAV have provided feedback on possible improvements to the facility. AAV will be upgrading their existing King Air 200 series with the King Air 360 series.
Objective and scope
Design then construction of -
- a Patient transfer facility (building) including insulation and roller door to allow a road ambulance to enter the facility
- apron and taxiway access at the front of the facility
- road access to the back of the facility
- utility connection with power, comms, water, sewer, standalone fire hydrant system
- drainage
- fencing
- lighting to the apron and taxiway access
Schedule
Council is currently seeking pricing for the detailed design of the Transfer Facility. The design will be undertaken in FY23/24 and include a detailed design of the new transfer facility in collaboration with Air Ambulance Victoria. Construction is expected to commence until FY24/25.
Funding
Funding is provided by the Australian Government through the Department of Industry, Science and Resources - Regional Airports Program Round 3.
