We listened - thank you to everyone who contributed feedback on the draft concept plans. Your input has been invaluable.

Community feedback regarding the proposed removal of the existing skate facility to make way for a new pocket park was mixed. While some supported the idea of a welcoming, passive open space, others expressed concern about losing a valued recreational facility.

In response, we are now exploring options to better meet community needs. Once a draft design is developed, we will re-engage with the community to seek further input and ensure the final outcome reflects local priorities.

We are partnering with Fraser Design Collaborative to prepare the Public Realm Masterplan for Swifts Creek.

The Public Realm for Swifts Creek refers to features and places such as the Recreation Reserve, the Skate Park, the Tambo River Playground, Poets Walk, the Swifts Creek Hall and Great Alpine Gallery frontages, and the Great Alpine Road streetscape, including trees and street furniture.

The draft concept plans can be viewed here:

Community consultation

Feedback during initial community engagement helped us identify a range of achievable projects that aim to improve the visual appeal of the township.

We asked the Swifts Creek community what is most valuable, what should be retained, what could be improved and what could be changed.

Funding

This project is funded by the Victorian Government through Emergency Recovery Victoria.

The development of the Swifts Creek Draft Public Realm Concept Plans is based the community engagement from the two workshops held in November 2024.

Members of the community were asked to nominate ideas for future open space projects within Swifts Creek. Feedback during initial community engagement was used to identify a range of achievable projects that aim to enhance the amenity and aesthetics of the township.

To help us make informed decisions, we asked for feedback on the draft concept plans. This helps us understand what the community likes, and where there might be concerns or challenges.

Whether you’re a resident, visitor, or work in these areas we want to hear from you. Your feedback is important and will be considered as we progress with this project.

Thank you to all the community members who attended the workshops and others who contributed to the planning of future of open space projects within Swifts Creek.

Following “open house” engagement sessions with community members on 14 November 2024, which defined opportunities to enhance the public realm of the township, a range of potential projects were identified.
