Road Reseal Program 2023-2024
The Road Reseal Program 2023-2024 has been completed.
Sixty-six (66) roads across East Gippsland were resealed, amounting to approximately thirty-eight (38) kilometres of reseal works delivered.
Delivery of this annual program is informed by Council's Asset Management Plan, with roads selected based on their condition and level, with priority given toward adjacent roads to reduce mobilisation expenses.
The 2023-2024 Road Reseal Program was predominately funded by Council cash, with some roads included in the Australian Government Roads to Recovery Program.
The 2023-24 Road Reseal Program targets 66 roads
Council undertakes an annual Road Reseal Program. The Road Reseal Program for 2023-2024 has been formalised with 66 roads selected, amounting to approximately 37 kilometres of reseal works to be completed during the program.
Council's Asset Management Plan informs the delivery of the program and helps to prioritise roads listed for work based on road condition and use. Where possible, roads which are near each other are worked on to minimise mobilisation costs.
How the roads are selected
The roads to be resealed are nominated through a seal condition survey process which occurs at four yearly intervals (as required under the Local Government Act).
There are a number of attributes assessed in the survey, with each road given a score of condition. From the combination of these scores, the roads which score highest are included to the Reseal Program. Once the Reseal Program is drafted, Council Works Supervisors are supplied with the list to undertake preparation works prior to sealing. Finally, Council’s road sealing contractor undertakes sealing between December to 31 March.
