Bairnsdale - Day Street resurfacing complete
The Bairnsdale Hospital carpark in Day Street was resurfaced on the weekend of 28 – 29 October 2023.
The works were conducted by Fowlers Asphalting, who also completed renewal of all line marking. Fowlers were able to minimise the impact on hospital parking by staging the works over the two days, with visitors to the area asked to observe construction signage and directions from the contractor, including following traffic management direction in the precinct during the works.
The product used to resurface the car park is made predominantly of recycled materials and is branded as Reconophalt. This is Council's first use of this product and demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, aligning with our growing emphasis on green infrastructure and eco-friendly urban development.
All new painted pavement markings shall receive two applications of paint. The second [final] application of paint will be applied in approximately 4-6 weeks, when the initial application is cured. Closure of the car park will again be required to complete the second application and notification of the closure will be advised when the schedule has been organised.
The Road Reseal Program 2023-2024 has been completed.
Sixty-six (66) roads across East Gippsland were resealed, amounting to approximately thirty-eight (38) kilometres of reseal works delivered.
Delivery of this annual program is informed by Council's Asset Management Plan, with roads selected based on their condition and level, with priority given toward adjacent roads to reduce mobilisation expenses.
The 2023-2024 Road Reseal Program was predominately funded by Council cash, with some roads included in the Australian Government Roads to Recovery Program.
