Congratulations to the Lake Tyers Beach Hall Committee of Management and local community on the re-opening of the Lake Tyres Beach Hall held on Friday 6 September 2024.
The event commenced with acknowledgement of Elders and Country followed by Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Shay Terrick. Original committee members, including 99-year-old May Beveridge with Terry Whelan from the 1962 LTB Hall Committee, were invited to cut a ribbon and welcome attendees into the newly updated facility.
The Hall was lovingly decorated and presented by the committee and local residents. Current Hall Committee President, Brian Bolding, spoke about the Committee’s five-year redevelopment journey and Vice President Shane Rees took attendees for a walk down memory lane with stories of the history of the old hall and school.
A stunning portrait of Aunty Phyllis Andy was unveiled. The portrait, a collaboration between Barb Allen and Josephine Jakobi, is a beautiful tribute to Aunty Phillis and Lake Tyres. It was created on linen soaked in the Lake for a month to absorb the essential elements which are visible in the markings on the cloth.
Aunty Phyllis Andy talked about her family background and strong connection to the area and expressed her joy in her acknowledgement in this stunning artwork.
Thank you to the Hall Committee and the local community for their enthusiasm and dedication, we hope the Hall will continue to be a place of engagement and joy for many years to come.

We are pleased to advise of the successful completion of the long-awaited upgrade to the Lake Tyers Beach Community Hall, funded through the Federal Government's Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program and substantial investment from Council, this much-loved community hub has undergone a remarkable transformation.
This upgrade not only enhances the functionality of the hall but also gives it a fresh, contemporary look, ensuring it remains a vibrant space for years to come.
What's new for the community?
- Enhanced IT facilities: improved connectivity with upgraded IT infrastructure.
- Expanded meeting spaces: newly improved indoor and outdoor areas designed for a variety of community activities and events.
- Upgraded bathrooms: More toilets mean greater comfort and convenience during events.
- Improved accessibility: The new compliant parking space, pathway and ramp fosters inclusivity and creates a welcoming and safer environment for everyone to enjoy the new facilities.
- Modern new look: During construction, we discovered termite damage and asbestos, leading to a redesign of the entry and replacement of the exterior cladding. The new bushfire-resistant Colorbond cladding in ‘Surfmist’ not only enhances safety but also gives the hall a sleek, modern appearance…. in an appropriately named colour!
The enhanced facilities and updated design will support a range of community activities and events. We look forward to seeing the hall serve the community effectively in its updated form.
