The upgrade of Lake Tyers Beach Road aims to significantly improve our community’s infrastructure to create a more resilient and efficient road network that not only improves drainage and reduces maintenance but also enhances safety and accessibility for all road users.
This project is being undertaken in stages, with Stage 1 already completed and significant planning underway for Stages 2 and 3.
Objective and scope
The objective of this project is to design and implement recommended infrastructure upgrades identified as part of the drainage investigations undertaken by our contractor, as well as a shared concrete footpath.
Stage 1 is complete and has seen the upgrade of road drainage infrastructure (kerb and channel) from the Lake Tyers foreshore carpark to Flounder Road.
Stage 2 & 3 are in the planning phase and will see the redevelopment of eight intersections along Lake Tyers Beach Road, a shared concrete footpath from Flounder Road to Bream Road, kerb and channel, drainage upgrades, improved road pavement, and formalised bus stop bays in the section of Lake Tyers Beach Road from Flounder Road to Bream Road.
Investigations to understand the drainage improvement from Flounder Road to Bream Road intersection will be used to design enhanced infrastructure to improve resilience and reduce future maintenance.
Funding
Funding for design of Stage 2 is allocated in Council's adopted Budget for FY 2024/25. Stage 3 will be considered in the next financial year and is subject to budget review.

Thank you for your question. Crossovers are not included in the scope of works; however, Council will reconstruct existing driveways if a drainage pipe or driveway culvert needs to be removed during kerb and channel installation. Impacted residents will be notified. Additionally, please refer to the “Driveway Access” section under FAQs on this page for more details.

The bus stop at the Bream Road intersection is planned by the Department of Transport and Planning. However, I can confirm that the new bus stop near Flounder Road will be at the same location as the existing
but slightly modified in front of 13 View Street, Lake Tyers Beach. This new stop will feature an indented bus bay, a new bus shelter, and a concrete footpath. The current bus shelter may need to be demolished,
and a new one will be constructed according to relevant authority standards.

Thank you for your question, Allan. There is proposed footpath at Flounder Road, extending from the end of stage 1 and connecting across Lake Tyers Beach Road to the
existing footpath to the south. Please refer to the concept design in the document section for footpath alignment.
