3 days agoCLOSED: This ideas has concluded.Imagine this...the year is 2050 and more people are choosing to live and work in Bairnsdale. Our regional centre is flourishing, our economy is thriving, housing is affordable and it’s easy to get around. What plans do we put in place today to create the Bairnsdale we want to see in the future?
Thinkr3 days agoDestination town
Let’s make Bairnsdale a town that people want to visit and live in because it has something that people want to experience. Eg Bairnsdale is a gateway to the wild forests of East Gippsland. In Bairnsdale people could see what the area used to be like 60,000 years ago by visiting Krowathunkalong; people could learn about the importance of the forest pollinators by taking a guided tour of the local bat colony and visiting the world class flying fox educational resource and research centre; people could take a kayak trip up the Mitchell River with one of the many adventure tourism businesses that have been given support to establish in town; and people could dine at one of the many quality restaurants serving local produce.

The current Forge Theatre, with a seating capacity of only 360, falls short when it comes to accommodating larger music concerts or conferences. However, there's an exciting opportunity to design a multipurpose entertainment infrastructure that can not only cater to these events but also serve as a versatile community hub, including its use as a relief center during bushfire incidents.

Hole in the wall cafes, small venues for music and theatre ( think Paynesville Wine Bar and La Mama Theatre)

3 days agoCLOSED: This ideas has concluded.Bairnsdale’s industrial areas support some of the region’s most productive and top earning industries. As we transition to a more diversified economy, it will be important for industrial land to accommodate the growth of businesses and allow new and emerging industries to establish in Bairnsdale. This also means making sure enough industrial land is identified for future use in Bairnsdale.
- In identifying future industrial land, what’s most important to consider?
- What infrastructure (including transport infrastructure) will be needed to support a more diversified economy in 2050?
- How can Bairnsdale’s existing industrial areas be enhanced to support ongoing investment?

3 days agoCLOSED: This ideas has concluded.Bairnsdale’s mix of shops and businesses contributes to its role as a Regional Centre. It will be crucial to support local shops and businesses to thrive in changing economic times, so that Bairnsdale remains vibrant and attractive to both local residents and people from surrounding areas. This includes ensuring enough commercial or retail space is available into the future.
- How can we support local shops and businesses to thrive and adapt in changing economic times?
- What would help to make Bairnsdale’s CBD a more vibrant place after 5pm?
- How can we encourage redevelopment and greater density in commercial and retail areas to accommodate growth and activate the CBD?
- What can we learn from other towns and cities that have faced similar challenges?

Basil4 days agoHave regular music/dance/food truck/picnic evenings at the outdoor pool. What an amazing venue to gather at during warmer months.
0 comment1Billie10 days agoI would like to see a cycling track track between Bairnsdale and Lindenow. This is a busy section of road, which is unsafe to cycle.
As the amount of housing is increasing in Lindenow and Lindenow South there is a greater need for off road cycling and walking areas to help reduce motor vehicle congestion and also for recreational use. People need a safe place to ride.
