Bairnsdale 2050

UPDATE August 2026
Following the completion of Phase 1 community consultation, we've been working on an extensive review of feedback received and background information and have commenced with drafting the Bairnsdale 2050 Strategy (B2050).
The Bairnsdale 2050 Community Engagement Report and Appendices presents the findings from the Phase 1 community engagement process and can be found in the Document Library on this page.
B2050 outlines a vision for Bairnsdale and proposes 5 strategic directions including:
- Greater housing choice
- Thriving places and spaces
- A resilient economy
- Connected regional hub
- Services for all stages of life
B2050 also outlines some “Big Moves” or catalyst projects to focus investment and demonstrate the change the strategy is seeking to achieve along with 'precinct visions' to provide direction for several key areas and places across Bairnsdale.
The project is about the long-term future of Bairnsdale. It is not simply about short-term actions, or quick fixes.
What's next
Phase 2 Community consultation is anticipated to take place later in 2026 with a range of activities and opportunities for the community to provide feedback on the draft strategy.
The next stage presents opportunities to strengthen the strategy and build shared ownership of its implementation. Further feedback will be used to test the vision, principles, strategic directions, Big Moves, precinct priorities and implementation approach. Following engagement, B2050 will be refined and presented back to Council for adoption.
