We are working on the concept design for the redevelopment of the West Bairnsdale Oval.

This work aims to enhance this valued community space to better accommodate local sporting clubs and volunteers, encourage community connection, and create more opportunities for people across East Gippsland to be active and involved.

The West Bairnsdale Oval Redevelopment is the next priority in the 15-year Bairnsdale Sporting Facilities Plan. As facilities age and the community evolves, now is the time for review – and your input matters.

To do this, we will -

  • Review the existing 2018 masterplan
  • Deliver meaningful community engagement
  • Design a contemporary, flexible recreation reserve

Throughout the project, we’re engaging directly with sporting clubs and associations, schools, and user groups. This engagement will also help identify issues with existing facilities, access and amenity, along with desired improvements, ensuring priorities, staging and future investment decisions are informed by those who use the reserve most.

Have your say

We’ll listen to your ideas and concerns and use what you tell us to shape the concept design for the redevelopment of the West Bairnsdale Oval. Your feedback will also inform future investment through the capital works program. Once decisions are made, we’ll let you know how your input made a difference.

Have your say on:

  • Layout, site configuration and refinement of design
  • Access, circulation and parking
  • Amenity, lighting and user experience
  • Preference for playground style

Meanwhile, there are certain aspects that cannot be influenced by the engagement process. These include:

  • Physical boundaries of the reserve
  • The overall intent and strategic direction inherited from the 2018 Masterplan
  • Project delivery speed, staging and budget
  • Council policy constraints

Our goal is to create a modern, accessible and adaptable community space that supports permanent sporting clubs, accommodates casual and emerging users, and provides a welcoming place for community recreation. This aligns with Council’s focus on strengthening healthy, connected communities and ensuring spaces are safe, inclusive and well‑designed.
