We’re upgrading the community and visitor facilities in Swifts Creek to deliver a modern recreational space and unique feature for the township. What that looks like – a skate park or an upgraded playground and surrounds – is up to you!

Over the past 12 months, we’ve been working on the Swifts Creek Draft Public Realm Master Plan, with strong community involvement throughout the process. Engagement has included community workshops and a YourSay East Gippsland survey, ensuring local voices have shaped the vision.

During the workshops members of the community were asked to nominate ideas for future open space projects within Swifts Creek. The following projects were identified and with Fraser Design Consultants concepts were developed and feedback requested on these concepts.

  • Streetscape upgrade in town centre
  • Pedestrian link from town centre to recreation reserve
  • Upgrade playground and surrounds
  • Pocket park with removal of the skate park

The current skate park has reached the end of its life and needs to be removed. This will necessitate Council either replacing the facility with a new skate park or developing a passive recreational space for the community and visitors to Swifts Creek.

Community feedback

Feedback on the proposed removal of the existing skate facility to make way for a new pocket park was mixed. While some supported the idea of a welcoming, passive open space, others expressed concern about losing a valued recreational facility.

We listened.

In response, we’ve developed a third option:

  • A contemporary skate park, incorporating design elements from the pocket park concept.

We asked you for your feedback on which amenity option you prefer for this site. Thank you to everyone who got involved and provided feedback to help us identify the preferred option.

Your input will guide us in progressing one of these options to the delivery stage.

Our commitment to you: inform to consult – we’ll keep you in the loop and make sure your voice is heard. We’ll share updates, listen to your ideas and feedback, and use what you tell us to help shape the final design. And once decisions are made, we’ll let you know how your input made a difference.

Thank you for helping us plan safer, more accessible, and engaging amenities for everyone.
