PLAYSPACE UPGRADE

Do not remove play equipment – add other elements to playground. Incorporate a splash park in the area.

Added elements such as nature based play pieces and more contemporary play pieces extending onto riverbank will enhance the play area and create a more inclusive play space. Splash parks are a specific facility that are considered in Regional scaled playspaces.

Construct a new skate park for older children if the existing skate park to be removed.

There is not sufficient space to construct a new skate park at this site. We are exploring redesigning the existing skate park.

Love the combination of natural and made play equipment and the mixture of very active and more gentle play opportunities.

Noted

Looks great. The upgrade is an excellent idea of concept that will accommodate a wide range of ages and a safe more accessible and diverse space for families.

Noted

Ensure Swifts Creek Hall Committee involved in ongoing design works.

Noted

Good design, require horse riding signs leading up to Swifts Creek bridge near Police Station.

Noted

Love it. The seats outside the Gallery and Community Centre will provide great opportunities for informal interaction. The picnic tables outside the Bakery are essential for encouraging people to stop and spend $ in town.

Add one roof over picnic table and extra rubbish bins.

Noted and included within final design

Additional street furniture will provide opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy the beautiful surroundings

Noted

Retain all street trees

Noted, potential to add more trees to streetscape

POCKET PARK UPGRADE

Upgrade skatepark rather than develop into a passive open space.

Concept for new skatepark being undertaken.

Include Partour/Ninja, elements for the older kids to use.

Looking to include elements within play space rather than in this limited space

Great idea for a community park

Noted

Love it. Especially love the circle design. This will become an important outdoor gathering space for both locals and visitors. Rubbish bins required.

Noted

Consider naming the Park in honour of a prominent Swifts Creek person.

Noted

It’s a lovely concept, however in the absence of a replacement skatepark no to removing skatepark. Enhance the space to be more welcoming and comfortable for people to use.eg shade and seating.

Concept plan of new skatepark with upgraded park amenity underway.

The current skate park is underutilized.

A welcoming pocket park will be a great addition to the streetscape and will be utilised by visitors, residents, and the school due to its location.

Addition of an electric BBQ would add to park.

The skate park turns into a hotplate through summer due to all the metal and the kids cannot use it.

Explore the inclusion of a BBQ.

PEDESTRIAN LINK TO RECREATION RESERVE

Great, essential for the safety of the kids walking to and from the Rec Reserve, encouraging all to walk, reducing pressure on RR parking.

Note lighting will be essential in winter.

Noted

Good concept - most students walk from school to training via the shop on the northern (other) side of Cassilis Road and continue northern side to reserve.

Noted for future design

Swifts Creek Draft Public Realm Concept Plans

The draft concept plans can be viewed here:

Objective and Scope

Swifts Creek Public Realm Plan East Gippsland Shire Council is partnering with Fraser Design Collaborative to prepare the Public Realm Masterplan for Swifts Creek.

The Public Realm for Swifts Creek refers to features and places such as the Recreation Reserve, the Skate Park, the Tambo River Playground, Poets Walk, the Swifts Creek Hall and Great Alpine Gallery frontages, and the Great Alpine Road streetscape, including trees and street furniture.

Feedback during initial community engagement helped us identify a range of achievable projects that aim to improve the visual appeal of the township.

We asked the Swifts Creek community what is most valuable, what should be retained, what could be improved and what could be changed.
