Why is council undertaking this project?

Council recognizes that the Ferry Park is tired and has chaotic signage. The toilets are not up to current standards and do not cope on busy days. The funding received offers the opportunity to improve the amenities of the park for Raymond Islander’s and visitors. The proposed works will complement the Koala Trail and Discovery Experience project that will commence shortly.

    Who is funding the project?

The East Gippsland Shire Council has received $300,000 funding from Local Roads and Community Infrastructure through the Federal Government, to upgrade the Ferry Park Reserve area.

Will the carparks be constructed as part of this works?

With the limited funding available, the Council will appoint a consultant to undertake the detailed design and preliminary estimates, however the construction will not be able to commence straight away. Getting the detail design completed and construction ready, will mean Council can plan for it in the future or obtain additional grant funding to complete the construction works. The carparking is shown on the concept plan to enable the community to see what is possible in these locations. Council would like feedback on the car parking layout.

Will any trees be removed during construction?

There will be no impact on existing Trees.

Modifications to existing gardens/extra planting may occur with some gardens being rejuvenated.

Will the existing toilet block remain open?

The existing toilet block will remain open to the public until the new toilet block has been fully constructed and is functional.

    When will construction start?

The start date of the construction has not been determined yet as we are still at the concept stage of the project and going through community consultation.

What will the Traffic impacts be?

No traffic will be impacted during the construction of the toilet block, paths etc. however areas of the park may be temporary fenced off for safety reasons.

Has Council consulted with the community on this project?

Council has established a project control group which has been meeting on a fortnightly basis. Moving forward Council will be going out to community consultation with the concept that has been agreed to by the project control group.

Council will provide further information on the landscaping layouts, toilets and other information in the coming months and suggestions and feedback on these items are welcome.

When will I be able to get more information in relation to the Koala Trail & Discovery Experience?

Council will provide the information for the Koala Trail and Discovery Experience when is it available. Community consultation will also happen for this stage of the project. Council will keep the community updated by various methods (Your Say, through community groups etc.). At this stage the extension and modification of the Koala Trail & Discovery Experience is still at early concept stage.

Visit the Koala Trail and Discovery Experience YourSay page here.

How can I get more information?
