Raymond Island Ferry Park Reserve

This project is the first stage of the Koala Trail and Discovery Experience.

This project will include the upgrade of the Ferry Park Reserve by constructing new public amenities, public facilities (seating, water fountain) interpretation modifications and safer pedestrian access. This will help to improve the park and amenities for residents and create a world class ‘gateway’ to the koala visitor experience on Raymond Island.

The project will be delivered by East Gippsland Shire Council in conjunction with local volunteer community, State Government agencies and the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation.

Project Scope

  • Upgraded amenities (including all access/parent’s room toilet facilities)
  • Improved pedestrian safety
  • Improved visitor facilities (seating, water stations)
  • Signage for ferry parking in Paynesville
  • A well-marked, interesting and easy to navigate ‘gateway’ to the Koala Trail

The budget for this project is comprised of contributions from Local Roads and Community Infrastructure through the Federal Government and Council.

Signage for ferry parking in Paynesville will be installed to help reduce unnecessary traffic on the ferry and on Raymond Island. This will also facilitate economic growth within Paynesville with the increased expenditure by visitors and increased employment opportunities during and after construction, as well as new local business opportunities in eco-tourism, environmental management, and education.

Community Engagement

The community consultation has now closed. In August/September 2021 we were seeking your feedback on the proposed concept plan (see the Ferry Park Reserve Concept Plan in the Documents section in the right-hand column) which has been developed as an initial talking point for what the project might deliver. Council held ten in person information sessions on Raymond Island in September 2021, with representatives available to help answer questions and listen to feedback. Thank you to everyone who attended and shared feedback.
