Why is council undertaking this project?

    Council is undertaking this project to address key actions from the Paynesville Foreshore Management Plan adopted in 2017.

    Is the project fully funded?

    Funding for this project is provided in the Council 2023/2024 budget.

    Is there a Project Reference Group?

    A Project Reference Group (PRG) has been established to help guide this project moving forward. 

    The PRG will provide a representative viewpoint on the design options and will be included on communications of detailed design. The group is selected with the intention of forming a representative section of the most significant interests that will use or appreciate the area, and to facilitate community involvement in identifying problems and evaluating solutions.

    Role of the PRG

    Reference Group members will contribute both local and technical knowledge about issues that are relevant to the project and provide representation for a variety of stakeholder interests.

    Specifically, the Reference Group will:

    • Provide input, advice and recommendations to the Project Control Group (PCG)
    • Review and comment on draft project documents
    • Ensure that the views and interests of their organisation/interest group and the community are represented, and that relevant stakeholders are engaged
    • Provide an active and positive contribution to the project
    • Champion the project within the community
    • Help achieve community participation
    • Ensure that community engagement and communication is effective

    Who is in the Project Reference Group?

    The project reference group consist of community members and representatives from the following community groups:

    Paynesville Landcare representative

    Paynesville Coast care representative

    Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC)

    East Gippsland Shire Council (EGSC)

    Paynesville Business & Tourism Association (PBTA)

    Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)

    When will construction commence?

    Construction will commence once detailed design documentation is finalised and approved by East Gippsland Shire Council and the Project Reference Group. 

    Construction will likely take place in the 2023/24 financial year.

    Will any trees be removed during construction?

    There will be minimal impact on existing trees – some minor trimming may be required but all approvals necessary will be in place prior to this occurring.
