The upgrade of the Shaving Point boat ramp in Metung was completed in October 2023.

The upgrade of the Shaving Point boat ramp is now complete - Media Release

Council is pleased to have received funding from Better Boating Victoria to assist with an upgrade of this well used boat ramp in Metung.

The works to be undertaken include the demolition of the existing concrete double ramp and two timber jetties with a replacement ramp and jetties which includes a combination of fixed jetties and floating pontoons whilst carrying out remediation works to prevent sand build up on the ramp.

The upgrade to this boat ramp is vital to ensure ongoing functionality, safety and asset life, as a Victorian public boating facility under the funding guidelines of the Recreational Boating Structural Maintenance Program.

The proposed outcome of the Shaving Point Boat Ramp Upgrade is to:

  • Improve the facilities for recreational boat users in this waterway and the other stakeholders in the local government area
  • Benefit the people and user groups of East Gippsland Shire and the surrounding areas.

“Recreational boating is an important part of the East Gippsland lifestyle and visitor experience. This Council manages 31 boat launching facilities across the shire and values the partnership and funding from the Victorian Government in assisting to maintain and upgrade these important facilities.” East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Mark Reeves

Budget

This project is largely funded by Better Boating Victoria, with contributions from East Gippsland Shire Council.
