FAQs
Why is this project being undertaken?
Community assets along the existing Eagle Point Foreshore Trail are reaching the end of life. Council is taking the opportunity to review the alignment and future infrastructure requirements (such boardwalks) for this trail in addition to making it fully accessibility compliant.
Pedestrian connectivity between Eagle Point and Paynesville was an identified priority of the Paynesville Foreshore Management Plan 2017 and the Eagle Point Marine and Coastal Management Plan 2019.
How was the alignment of the foreshore trail determined?
The shared path alignment allows for usage of existing roadway/paths, increased passive recreation and protection of environmental areas whilst not conflicting with existing foreshore infrastructure.
Why is the path proposed to be 3 metre in width?
The current Austroads Guide for design of paths for walking and cycling recommends 3metre wide paths. This width allows for the safe travel of pedestrians, cyclists, prams and wheelchairs.
It is anticipated that this improved shared pathway will be a desirable path for travel rather than along Bay Rd which does not have pedestrian infrastructure.
Will the shared path be DDA compliant?
Yes, the shared path will be constructed to Australian Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) standards.
What other amenities will be included within the design?
Revegetation of foreshore with indigenous plantings, viewing platforms with interpretive signage and seating are to be included within this project.
When is this project scheduled to commence construction?
There is no construction timetable as funding has not been secured as yet.
What is the construction methodology for the shared path?
The proposed shared path alignment will be a combination of raised boardwalks and concrete paths.
