Stormwater Management Plan
We look after a wide range of stormwater assets, including retarding basins, rain gardens, culverts, pipes and pits.
We’re creating a new Stormwater Management Plan to help improve how our stormwater system works, protect the environment and support sustainable development across the shire.
The plan will guide how we manage stormwater, including how we maintain our assets, reduce flooding, plan for future growth, improve water quality and prioritise future upgrades.
To shape the plan, we’ll use our existing drainage information, modelling, customer requests, and feedback from the community and key stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve stormwater management in East Gippsland.
The plan will include:
- Key challenges and opportunities for stormwater management in the shire and how to address these to maximise community and environmental outcomes.
- Roles and responsibilities for stormwater and water management in East Gippsland.
- An analysis of areas prone to flooding risks and management strategies to address these.
- Strategies for improving stormwater pollution and waterway health.
- Actions that will deliver improved outcomes for stormwater management in the shire.
Effective and sustainable stormwater management is essential for protecting homes, community assets, roads and the environment across the shire. Proper stormwater systems help prevent localised flooding during heavy rain events.
Survey open, we want to hear from you!
We are committed to hearing a wide range of community voices from across East Gippsland. Your feedback and local knowledge will help shape the Stormwater Management Plan.
The survey is now open, and we encourage everyone to take a few minutes to share their insights. Your feedback will help us better understand local stormwater issues, plan future improvements, and build a more resilient community. Every response makes a difference, have your say today.
Feedback will be open until 12pm Wednesday 25 March 2026
Join us at our community pop‑up events
To support the development of our Stormwater Management Plan, we’ll also be hosting a series of community pop‑up sessions across the shire. These informal drop‑in events are a chance to speak with council staff, ask questions, and share your experiences with local stormwater issues. We invite everyone to come along, learn more about the project, and contribute to shaping a more resilient future for our community.
