The detailed design for the Rupert Street Road and drainage upgrade is now underway. This design has been shaped by feedback from the community on the earlier concept plans, helping ensure the project reflects local needs and priorities.
The project covers Rupert Street (both West and East), Giles Street, and a new entrance to the Bairnsdale City Oval.
Rupert Street West and Giles Street:
- A new footpath linking Rupert Street to the Bairnsdale City Oval and Dalmahoy Street.
- Improved drainage with new kerb and channel.
- New road surface with parking lanes.
Rupert Street East:
- A new footpath along Rupert Street East.
- Improved drainage with new kerb and channel.
- New road surface with parking lanes.
- Extra parking near the U3A facility.
- A gross pollutant trap to be installed at the Suding Street outlet.
Bairnsdale City Oval Entrance:
- A new two‑lane entrance to the oval
- Safe access via a new footpath
What happens next
- Council engineers will continue refining and finalising the design.
- Ecological and cultural assessments will be undertaken once the design is finalised.
