Council has embarked on the development of a Management Plan to provide guidance for the management of the Raymond Island foreshore environment stretching south from the ferry terminal to Point Montague.

Objective and scope

Council's goal is to offer clear guidance and an evidence-based strategy for managing and utilising this area, considering its recognised environmental sensitivity and the community's feedback that it is a valued public open space.

The Management Plan will define specific areas and boundaries of the sensitive foreshore to be preserved and protected, whilst allowing for activities and enhancing the liveability of the area in a sensitive manner.

It also seeks to establish strategies that will enhance the visitor experience and increase community awareness of the high environmental value of the area.

The development of the Plan will be informed by a recently conducted environmental study, relevant legislation, past studies, and community views about the value and use as public open space.

Consultation and community engagement

The development of this Plan commenced in December 2023, with an opportunity to comment provided to stakeholders. Their feedback is available in the stakeholder feedback document.

Broader community engagement is now underway to gain further input and a deeper understanding of what residents and visitors would like to see in this space, and how the area is used.

The key stakeholders involved will continue to be contacted directly throughout the development of the Plan.

We welcome your participation in the engagement process and encourage you to view the associated documents before completing the short survey -

To reflect the interests of the community, it is important to understand what the community likes and where there might be concerns or challenges. Whether you’re a resident, visitor, or work in the area, we want to know what you think.

The survey is scheduled to close at midnight on Friday 7 June 2024
