Why is the streetscape being upgraded ?
To enhance the existing rural character of the town centre, promote tourism, increase the visitation economy and to further support commercial and social activities in the town centre of Omeo.
Why isn’t the entire Day Avenue being upgraded?
The funding grant is for the development of the concept design for Day Avenue with discrete locations along the street to be upgraded. The final concept plan will allow EGSC to look for further funding opportunities to deliver future works.
Who is funding the project?
The budget for this project is provided through the Living Local State Government Grant and East Gippsland Shire Council’s capital works budget 2023/24.
What species of trees will be planted?
Evergreen tree species have been selected to allow for a green canopy over the winter months. The majority of existing trees in the streetscape are deciduous which result in a bleak winter scene.
Trees have been selected to grow within the varying climatic conditions of Omeo.
Has the community been consulted with the community on this project?
The is an onsite community consultation session on 20th April with the Council Your Say Page open until 7th May 2023 with the concept plan and associated details available to review with an online survey open for feedback on the ideas developed to date.

Will any car parks be removed in the design?
The intent of the design is not to reduce the number of car parks accessible to Day Avenue.
When will construction commence?
The start date of the construction is yet to be determined as East Gippsland Shire Council is still only at concept stage of the project with construction to be finalised in mid 2024.
