Having a Place Plan is our way of working with communities to shape the future of each district – together

We're creating an easy-to-read, practical guide that brings together local voices, community priorities, and Council’s strategic direction into one coordinated plan. While Council-wide strategies provide the foundation, a Place Plan ensures that what we do reflects the unique character, needs, and aspirations of each of our districts.

Place Plans are built through deliberate community engagement, giving residents a voice in shaping their district’s future. They help Council make informed decisions and invest in the things that matter most to their communities.

District Place Plans are captured in the 2025-2029 Council Plan as a key focus of Theme 1 – Community wellbeing and social responsibility, and will be delivered over time across East Gippsland, district by district.

Omeo District Place Plan

Development of an Omeo District Place Plan is underway. The local profile is being developed using current demographic data and trends, alongside insights from existing plans, reports, and strategies. This includes identifying community values, issues, opportunities, and priorities.

From there, we will:

  • Host community workshops and online surveys.
  • Integrate Council resourcing and community input.
  • Refine actions and draft the Omeo District Place Plan.

The outcome will be an action-focused Place Plan that reflects both Council’s strategic direction and the community’s vision.

How to get involved

Your voice matters, and we’d love to hear from you. We're working together to create the Omeo District Place Plan, and your ideas, experiences, and perspectives are important.

We’re committed to listening and learning from our community throughout this process. Everyone is welcome to get involved, whether you live, work, or spend time in the district, your input will help shape a vibrant and inclusive future for the Omeo District.

Community workshops and the survey for the development of the Omeo District Place Plan have now concluded. Thank you to everyone who shared ideas, experiences, and perspectives. Your input is invaluable in shaping the future of the Omeo District.

We held seven workshops with 38 participants and received 85 survey responses, capturing 1,333 items across values, vision, priorities, challenges, and actions. We’ve also considered feedback from other engagement activities, including a recent Councillor visit to the area.

We are now reviewing all contributions and preparing a version for the next stage of engagement where we’ll work with the community to strengthen and prioritise feedback.

What’s next?

  • Further community engagement opportunities will be held in 2026. Dates will be shared on YourSay and advertised in the Omeo News sheet. We will also email registered community members. Please see below in News feed for project updates and details.
  • A follow-up survey will invite broad community feedback prior to the final draft of the Plans release.
  • We will provide periodic opportunities for community to review and complete quick polls on different sections of the plan as it progresses.
  • We also invite community to share stories of place through images that reflect what you love about the Omeo District.

Share an image of Omeo District

The Place Plan will outline how our community values and experiences place. As part of this, we would like to share a visual story by showcasing the places and people that make our community special.

Every day, we capture moments on our phones and cameras. Some are shared on social media, a few are printed and displayed, but most remain unseen, revisited only when we scroll back through our memories of the people and places that have shaped our lives.

We invite you to share your story of place through images that reflect what you love about the Omeo District.

Approved images will be published on this page, across social media channels, and in Council publications, brochures, and on the Council website.

Please ensure that all identifiable people in your images have given their full consent. Submissions must be accompanied by a signed declaration confirming this. Image Authorisation Form
