Share 8 July 2024 on Facebook Share 8 July 2024 on Twitter Share 8 July 2024 on Linkedin Email 8 July 2024 linkSafety upgrades and functionality improvements to Myer Street in Lakes Entrance are set to commence mid-July 2024.
Key upgrades include a revamped school crossing to bolster safety for students attending the Lakes Entrance Primary School, as well as residents and visitors to the area. The installation of new pathway connections and wider footpaths extending along both sides of Myer Street, from Roadnight Street and Church Street in the south to Coates Road in the north, will provide ample room for parents and guardians accompanying children to school and accommodate strollers and mobility aids fostering inclusivity through improved accessibility for everyone.
In response to community feedback and to cater to the evolving needs of the Lakes Entrance Primary School and the local community, road improvements will include raised asphalt platforms to streamline traffic flow and improve accessibility. Additional works include the installation of new kerb and channel, drainage upgrades, and the construction of concrete hardstands. The project also includes minor landscaping works to improve the overall appearance and appeal of the area.
Notable traffic changes include new entry and exit points for the service road on the Primary School side of Myer Street to provide additional safety for all road users.
The contract for the construction of these upgrades was awarded to Whelans Group Investments Pty Ltd (Whelans) at the 21 May 2024 Council Meeting, following a comprehensive publicly advertised tender process. Whelans is a local Gippsland company which brings years of experience and commitment in achieving exceptional outcomes, as demonstrated by their recent accomplishment in completing the Bullock Island Masterplan project.
Construction will be staged to minimise disruptions to the Primary School, local businesses, and visitors to the area, with anticipated completion before the busy 2024 festive season.
Funding for this project is provided by the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program, and East Gippsland Shire Council.
We are extremely grateful to the Lakes Entrance Primary School for their collaboration and support. Together, we are committed to creating a safer and more vibrant environment for students and community members alike.
