The development of a safe all-weather walking track to connect Kings Cove and Tambo Bluff in Metung was identified in the Metung-Nungurner District Community Plan.

A draft concept plan for a proposed walking trail was recently developed, with the pathway alignment to be located within the existing road reserves and other open space managed by East Gippsland Shire Council.

Council is now seeking feedback on the concept plan and welcomes your active participation in the community engagement process.

Objective and scope

The development of a formalised walking trail will enhance the Tambo Bluff area by connecting existing fragmented sections of trail and provide a stable walking path which will improve accessibility to meet the needs of the Tambo Bluff community and visitors to the area.

By providing a designated walkway we aim to help protect the local ecosystem by keeping visitors on a defined path, reducing the negative impact of trampling or littering on the environment, and also further opportunities for birdwatching, wildlife observation, and nature photography, attracting nature enthusiasts and increasing visitation and encouraging tourists to stay longer.

The concept plan includes a formalised shared path for pedestrians and cyclists together with upgraded trail connections to the foreshore and other open spaces.

Consultation and community engagement

Community consultation undertaken during the development of the Metung-Nungurner District Community Plan was also utilised to inform the development of the concept plan.

We encourage you to view the concept plan and warmly invite you to participate in the engagement process by completing the short survey.

We want the concept design to reflect the interests of the community; to help us make informed decisions, it's important to understand what the community likes and where there might be concerns or challenges. Whether you’re a resident, visitor or work in the area, we want to know what you think.

Please take 5 minutes to complete the survey - your feedback is important and will be considered as we progress with this project.

Funding

Council has allocated funding to complete design plans only at this stage.

Project construction is subject to the success of future funding applications
and may be staged in coming years.
