Jemmy’s Point (Kalimna, Lakes Entrance) is a lookout area that provides spectacular 270-degree panoramic views of the Gippsland Lakes, the Entrance, Bass Strait and 90 Mile Beach.

Stage 1 – Hotel Road Site

September 2020 saw the completion of the Hotel Road site lookout, which is immediately adjacent to the Princes Highway. The site comprises of a recently upgraded bitumen car park and associated landscaped garden beds.

The original timber lookout platform was removed with a modern but modest all abilities accessible pedestrian viewing platform built.

Stage 2 - Lookout Road Site

The Lookout Road site known as Rotary Park is accessed on a bitumen sealed road off Lookout Road. The site is a grassed park area (Rotary Park) with some existing infrastructure.

While a large scale and iconic platform will not be pursued at this time, Council is proceeding with improvements to the Rotary Park site, in line with the feedback received as part of previous community engagement. This includes:

  • new toilet facilities
  • solar BBQ and picnic tables
  • landscaping treatments, focusing on making the area more usable and enjoyable
  • improvement of the parking and turnaround road
  • repairs and improvements to the existing walking trails from the water edge up to Rotary Park and the new lookout on Hotel Road.

Other works across the project will include signage and interpretive facilities to provide a more comprehensive and informative experience for visitors. Signage will be installed on Princes Highway from the eastern and western approaches.

Project Control Group

The Project Control Group (PCG) is made up of members from LEADA, Regional Roads Victoria, Gippsland Ports, DELWP, Gunaikurnai Land and Water Aboriginal Corporation, Marine Safety Victoria, Disability Advisory Committee, the local Federal Member, Darren Chester and a representative from Council.

The role of the PCG is to ensure there is representation across the broader community in decisions relating to the planning and design phase of the project. Community members are encouraged to contact the PCG with any queries relating to the project.

    The Lookout Road site known as Rotary Park at Jemmy’s Point in Lakes Entrance is a grassed park area with some existing infrastructure and is part of our Jemmy’s Point Lookout Stage 2 project.

    While a large scale and iconic platform will not be pursued at this time, Council is proceeding with improvements to the Rotary Park site, in line with the feedback received as part of previous community engagement.

    Council contractors have commenced construction of the new all-ability toilets and baby change facilities, and barbeques. Installation of street furniture and all-ability picnic tables will soon follow. Landscaping treatments will focus on making the area more usable and enjoyable and we will also improve the parking and turnaround road.

    • Nature Advisory completed a native vegetation assessment and reporting for Rotary Park.
    • Consultant engaged to prepare planning permit application for Rotary Park works.
    • Rotary Park Marine & Coastal Management Consent (MACA) application is with DELWP for assessment
    • Kalimna Loop Walk masterplan completed by Horizon Studios, with the trail broken into nine sections.
    • Select topographic survey and an audit of the nine sections has been completed enabling the preparation of the scope of works identifying maintenance, repairs, and upgrades required.
    • Three tenders covering eight of the nine sections of the Loop Walk works were released to public tender in November 2022.
