We are designing a multi-purpose indoor sporting facility adjacent to the Lakes Entrance Aquadome.

Recognising the role that sport and recreation play in community connection and overall wellbeing, the proposed facility will cater for a range of indoor sports including basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton and futsal as well as new activities that are not yet catered for.

New sports courts will provide much-needed capacity for training and competitions, allowing local clubs to grow and host regional tournaments. The large indoor space will support a range of other community uses including functions, arts and culture activities, and community programs.

Development of the new facility is significantly closer following the award of the design contract to the community sports infrastructure design studio ARCH.

The design will consider:

  • New 3-court indoor stadium compliant with all indoor sporting guidelines.
  • A shared entrance/reception with Lakes Entrance Aquadome.
  • Realignment of existing road and car parking as required to meet new facility placement.
  • A design sensitive to the wetland environment.
  • All relevant assessments.

Community consultation

The Lakes Entrance Indoor Stadium was identified as a key priority of the East Gippsland Sporting Facility Plan 2023. Community and stakeholder input will play a role in shaping the design.

Project Reference Group (PRG)

A PRG has been established to progress the design of the indoor stadium. The PRG has been formed with a diverse mix of members who represent various sports, age groups, professional backgrounds, and areas across the region. This ensures broad community input and avoids overlapping perspectives.

Specifically, the PRG members represent community, Lakes Entrance Amateur Basketball Association, Lakes Entrance Tennis Club, Bairnsdale Soccer Club (futsal), Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association (LEADA) and Sport and Recreation Victoria (funding body).

Funding

This design project is supported by the Victorian Government through Sport and Recreation Victoria ($800,000), and Council.
Construction is subject to future funding availability.
