Two new raised pedestrian crossings are coming to Church Street – one at the intersection with Mechanics Street and another at Bulmer Street.
We have received funding from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) through the Safer Local Roads and Streets Program to improve pedestrian safety on Church Street, Lakes Entrance.
The design is based on established regulations and standards. The new crossings are supported by Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association.
This project will include:
Construction of a raised pedestrian crossing on Church Street, near the intersection of Bulmer Street.
Raised pedestrian crossing on Church Street, near the intersection of Mechanics Street, giving right-of-way to pedestrians.
Alteration of the existing raised speed hump at the intersection of Mechanics and Church streets.
Public lighting upgrades at both locations.
Flashing lights at the Mechanics Street pedestrian crossing to help draw attention to the high number of people using it.
Benefits will include:
Priority to pedestrians, making it safer and easier for people to move around.
Improve visibility and safety.
Next steps:
Tender for construction will open in November 2025.
Construction is anticipated in 2026, outside peak holiday seasons.
Communications prior to commencement of works.
