Community engagement

From August 2023 to April 2025, we've been out and about at markets, festivals, events and pop-up stalls in the community. Sharing waste education resources, the 'Small acts make a big impact' program encourages people to embrace sustainable practices.

From April to May 2025, a variety of billboard signs, television and radio advertisements is happening. We're also looking to evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign. Get involved by answering a short survey and have a chance to win a worm farm! Terms and conditions of the giveaway can be viewed here.

Objective and scope

As a part of the Waste Management Action Plan 2022-32, we identified the opportunity to educate people on what is recyclable, what isn't recyclable and how to treat recyclable items.

This behaviour change program aims to reduce the amounts of recyclable waste going into landfill and to reduce contamination in the commingled recycling bins.

Funding

We were awarded a grant through the Circular Economy Household Education Fund – Round 3. This commenced in August 2023 and will be completed in June 2025.

    The Sustainability Victoria Circular Economy Household Education Fund provided Council with financial support for delivering local campaign to promote the recycling system to build community trust and pave the way for successful implementation of the new services when they are introduced.
