This project is now complete.

The construction of all wickets has now been completed.

Project Background

The majority of junior cricket (under 13 and 16) in East Gippsland, as well as a significant proportion of senior cricket (some B Grade, C Grade and C Reserve) is played on synthetic pitches, with cricket ovals located all across East Gippsland. A recent audit of Council's cricket facilities identified that a number of existing pitches are below the recommended 2.4m width, and 25m minimum length. East Gippsland Shire is committed to creating the opportunities for young East Gippslanders to succeed in all facets, including sport. Part of this endeavour is to ensure high quality sporting facilities that support and promote development.

Project Description

The project is to dig up and remove six existing pitches and installing six concrete pitches 28m x 2.8m. These will be covered by artificial turf with junior line markings as per Cricket Australia guidelines.

Locations are:

  • AJ Freeman Reserve, Paynesville
  • Wy Yung
  • Lucknow
  • Lindenow
  • Sarsfield
  • Bruthen

Council is working closely with the Committee of Management groups to schedule in the works with the least amount of disruption for all user groups.

Funding

Funding for this project was provided by Sport & Recreation Victoria (SRV) - Local Community Sport and Recreation Projects and East Gippsland Shire Council
