What is a Road Management Plan?

Our Road Management Plan helps us to use our resources efficiently and effectively, to set maintenance standards and meet legal responsibilities under the Road Management Act 2004.

Our plan ensures our local roads, footpath and related assets are maintained fairly and safely across our region.

The following assets are covered by the Road Management Plan:

    • Council-managed sealed and unsealed roads
    • Footpaths
    • Bridges
    • Walking tracks
    • Kerb and channel
    • Roadside drainage
    • Signage
    • Linemarking
    • Roadside vegetation
    • Roadside safety systems and furniture

    How does this affect me?

The Road Management Plan is a statutory requirement, setting out how we inspect, maintain and repair our local roads and footpaths.

The plan sets the expectation around how quickly we fix issues like potholes, raised or uneven footpaths or the cleaning of roadside drains in your local area.

What is not covered in the Road Management Plan?

    The plan does not cover:

    • Arterial roads or highways that are managed by the Victorian Government Department of Transport and Planning (DTP)
    • Roads managed by neighbouring shire councils
    • Roads managed by the Victorian Government Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) or Parks Victoria

What happens to the feedback that I provide?

Your feedback will help us to prioritise areas of maintenance activities that are important to the community. While there are minimum service standards if community feedback identifies areas that are of greater importance, we can adjust the intervention levels to allocate increase response time and budget to specific maintenance activities.

Your feedback ensures council is using our resources to create the best benefit to the community.
