Council is seeking feedback on the draft Economic Development Strategy for East Gippsland.
The Strategy includes an overarching 10-year economic vision that reflects the shire’s robust economic drivers, both current and prospective, and will act as a coordinator of the economic development efforts of a range of stakeholders inside and outside of Council.
At the core of the project was stakeholder involvement, co-design. The aim was to genuinely engage stakeholders in East Gippsland’s economic future, including groups not ordinarily involved in these conversations.
This co-design process included:
25 stakeholder interviews,
a co-design forum with over 50 individuals, and
two focus groups who contributed several times in the process. One group was focused on traditional economic wealth building sectors, while the second group focused on less traditional and emerging sectors.
In drafting this strategy we also looked at background economic analysis on the drivers, enablers and sustainers of economic development.
The nominated targets and focus areas have been aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), ensuring that the strategy is multi-faceted and recognises the relationships in the drivers of sustainable development and consistent with best practice globally.
This is in keeping with the Council Plan and other key local strategies.
Theaim was to generate a strategy that is both innovative and practical and deliver priorities for the short, medium and long-term that are targeted, realistic and achievable.
We are seeking feedback to provide higher degrees of confidence that they strategy will have support from stakeholders a strategy that Council can drive with confidence, knowing that stakeholders have been in the room during its development.
Feedback on the draft strategy closes Thursday 21 July.
