Murphy Street Road Infrastructure - Design Phase

Murphy Street has been identified as needing substantial upgrades. There are specific challenges at the intersection at Riverine Street, particularly for larger vehicles, and the current underground drainage system is not sufficient for present and future needs.

It is important to note that at this stage, we are solely focusing on designing the road infrastructure; construction is subject to budget funding availability.

Objective and scope

This project aims to create design plans for a thorough renovation of the road pavement and drainage infrastructure.

  • reconstruction of the road surfaces
  • redesigning the intersections with other roads to enhance functionality and improve traffic flow.
  • incorporate advanced underground drainage systems for better efficiency.
  • new footpaths, kerb and channel, landscaping

Consultation and community engagement

A design consultant has been engaged, and two designs are available in the documents section.

We would like your input!

We want to hear what you think, so we’ve put together a survey to collect your feedback. Two designs are available for consideration: a single carriageway and a divided carriageway.

It is important to understand your experience, usage, and preferences:

  • Do you cycle, walk or drive a vehicle along Murphy Street?
  • What’s important to you along Murphy Street?
  • What’s your preferred road design?

Your feedback will help inform the detail design. Survey closes 6 March 2025.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention. We will undertake a comprehensive road safety audit of Murphy Street to address all road safety matters.

As part of our commitment to improving road safety, we will also perform a geometric realignment of the road to enhance traffic flow and visibility.

Additionally, updated signage and line marking will be implemented to clearly indicate the right of way, slowing down vehicles and reducing the risk of vehicle crashes to ensure a safer environment for all road users.
