Murphy Street Road Infrastructure - Design Phase

Murphy Street has been identified as in need of road and drainage upgrades, including a complete reconstruction of the road pavement, as the existing underground drainage system is inadequate to meet current and future needs.

Challenges at the Riverine Street intersection have been recognised, particularly for large vehicles. However, it is important to note that at this stage, we are solely focusing on designing the road infrastructure. The construction phase is subject to budget funding availability. Current intersections have posed safety concerns for some vehicles, while articulated trucks face insurmountable obstacles. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the design phase and future construction plans.

Objective and scope

The scope of this project involves the development of design plans for a comprehensive overhaul of road pavement infrastructure, including a complete reconstruction of road surfaces, including the redesign of both Dawson Street and Riverine Street intersections to improve overall functionality and streamline traffic flow.

The design will include new underground drainage systems to enhance efficiency. Disability Discrimination Act 1992 compliant footpaths and kerb and channel features will also be integrated into the new design to ensure pedestrian safety and accessibility.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention. We will undertake a comprehensive road safety audit of Murphy Street to address all road safety matters.

As part of our commitment to improving road safety, we will also perform a geometric realignment of the road to enhance traffic flow and visibility.

Additionally, updated signage and line marking will be implemented to clearly indicate the right of way, slowing down vehicles and reducing the risk of vehicle crashes to ensure a safer environment for all road users.
