Big improvements proposed for Bosworth Road dog park

An upgrade to the off-leash dog park at Bosworth Road Recreation Reserve is being planned, thanks to $100,000 funding from the Victorian Government’s New and Upgraded Dog Parks – Round 2 Program.

This project will transform the existing space into a welcoming, fun, and accessible destination for dogs and their humans to enjoy together.

The proposed works will include:

  • Drinking water for both dogs and their owners
  • Activity zones with agility elements and space to run, play, and explore
  • Improved self-closing gates and accessible paths
  • Picnic shelter with seating for shade and weather protection
  • New trees and groundcover planting to create a greener, cooler space

These upgrades are designed to encourage social connection, outdoor activity, and a stronger sense of community - all while giving our four-legged friends a place to thrive.

Community engagement

Between 24 June and 31 July 2025, we engaged with our community to gather feedback on the proposed upgrades to the Bosworth Road Dog Park in Bairnsdale.

Thank you to those who participated - your ideas and feedback have helped to shape the final plan. Thanks to community feedback, the final design now includes a quieter, passive dog area separated from the main dog zone. The detailed design plan is available in the document section.

What we heard: The engagement included a survey tool and information resources, attracting 285 total visits and 36 contributors. A total of 37 survey responses were received, providing valuable insights into community preferences, concerns, and priorities.

Key themes included strong support for improved amenities such as shade, seating, water stations, and dog agility equipment. Some accessibility and safety concerns were raised.

Community feedback strongly suggests that separate areas within the dog park would be valued to help manage diverse play styles and sizes of dogs to promote safety and enhance the overall park experience. Separate areas also allow dog owners to enjoy a more relaxed and peaceful experience that meets their expectations within the park.

Amenity improvements

Request for:

  • seating
  • shade/shelter
  • water stations, and
  • dog agility/play equipment

Accessibility & safety

Concern about:

  • park’s isolated location
  • uneven terrain
  • lack of lighting
  • lack of secure parking

Inclusivity

Requests for:

  • separate fenced areas
  • features to support users with mobility challenges

Creating a space that’s paws-itively perfect for everyone!
