Consultation has concluded

East Gippsland Shire Council is undertaking drainage investigation and design work as part of a stormwater improvement program which seeks to manage stormwater to mitigate widespread flooding.

Tambo Boulevard is subject to widespread flooding during regular rain events. In heavy rain, water covers almost the entire road surface and flooding extends onto private properties. The project extends along Tambo Boulevard in Metung, from the stream at the end of Reynolds Road to the end of Tambo Boulevard. The design objective is to manage stormwater to mitigate widespread flooding.

Surveyors will soon be engaged to map the existing conditions and accurately model flooding occurrences. The findings from this investigation work will inform Council's action to mitigate, or eliminate, flooding on the properties along Tambo Boulevard, Metung.

On completion of the survey mapping task, a concept plan will be prepared to inform the request for quotation.

Objective and scope

  • Understand the flood behaviour along this street and around the stream.
  • Propose and design the best value upgrade works for Tambo Boulevard to cater for 1 in 20 ARI including climate change scenario with 17.5% increase in volume of flow
  • 5% AEP - Achieve flood immunity
  • 1% AEP – eliminate private property flooding, minimise extent of road flooding so as to eliminate road closure (TOC equal zero)
  • Implement mitigation measures to achieve erosion and sediment control
  • Implement protective treatment if necessary to achieve resilient infrastructure and minimise flood damage to road infrastructure
  • Manage stormwater runoff water quality and ensure best practice stormwater treatment objectives are met.

Consultation and community engagement

The feedback from the preliminary investigation and flood modelling will be shared with residents via the YourSay page.

Schedule

Council does not have a confirmed date for construction at this stage. The community will be kept informed as we progress throughout the year.

This project has not yet been programmed for construction and will be submitted for budget funding once the detailed design and associated construction costs are finalised.
