Stormwater Management Plan Survey

We will use the information provided to help identify priorities and inform planning. However, it may not always be possible to resolve flooding or drainage issues by building new infrastructure, and options may be limited due to environmental, technical, budgetary or location-specific constraints. In these cases, alternative approaches and/or priorities may need to be considered.

East Gippsland Shire Council collects your information to seek feedback on the Stormwater Management Plan. For more information on Council’s Privacy Policy, please visit the EGSC Privacy Policy link at the bottom of this page or email feedback@egipps.vic.gov.au if you have any questions.

Stormwater priorities and solutions

1.

How important are the following stormwater management outcomes to you?

Reducing flood risk to homes and buildings (i.e. flooding above floor level)
Reducing flood impacts to private land (e.g. yards, driveways, paddocks, access tracks and landscaping)
Protecting critical/sensitive services and infrastructure (e.g. hospitals, schools, emergency services, aged/childcare facilities)
Improving water quality entering rivers and the ocean
Enhancing natural waterways and habitats
Capturing and treating stormwater for beneficial use (e.g. for firefighting or watering street trees/public parks to create greener, cooler neighbourhoods)
Encouraging community behaviour change (e.g reducing domestic/business use of chemicals and other contaminants that can cause polluted stormwater runoff)
Providing information to help private property owners better manage stormwater and/or reduce risk/impacts of flooding

3.

The following are potential solutions to the issues from the previous question. To what degree do you support Council investing in the following

Upgrading old stormwater pipes that have increased risk of failing/collapse
New/enhanced drains in flood-prone areas
Waterway restoration and erosion control to minimise environmental impacts of stormwater
More use of natural systems (‘water-sensitive urban design’) such as wetlands, raingardens and soaks/infiltration to help manage stormwater runoff
Better maintenance of existing drainage assets
Community education including behaviour and preparedness programs
Technology and monitoring (e.g., sensors, alerts/warnings)

How well do you feel you understand how different stormwater management ‘solutions’ (e.g. in previous question) address various stormwater-related issues (e.g. flooding/environmental impacts)?
