Why is Council undertaking this project?
Council is undertaking this project in response to safety concerns and maintenance issues raised by community, particularly for pedestrians traveling along footpath between McLeod Street to Clark Street.
This project is part of Council’s FY24/25 Capital Works Footpath Renewal Program. By undertaking this project Council intends to address safety concerns and implement a better footpath for the Orbost community.
Will this cause disruption to business or pedestrians?
Council will work closely with business’s operating between McLeod Street to Clark Street, who may face some disruption during the construction stage. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and ensure the safety of pedestrians and road users.
A Traffic Management Plan will be developed and made available for any temporary changes.
Council officers will directly contact businesses who may be impacted.
Does the new footpath meet standards for accessibility?
The new footpath will be Disability Discrimination Act 1992 compliant, which means it will be wheelchair-accessible with the compliant width of 2m, gradient standards, and tactile markers.
Will the street trees be removed as part of this project?
Following the vegetation assessment, Council will seek advice from expert ecological and arboriculturists to identify whether tree removal is required.
