Stage 2 - spillway and bridge

Streamology have finalised the detailed design for the replacement of the damaged spillway and bridge. The existing spillway, which is partly concrete and partly rock, will be replaced by a rock spillway (basically an angled rock chute).

The following set of criteria were developed with consideration of greater objectives from DEECA and NECMA to guide the selection of the most appropriate design solution for the site:

  • Impediment to invasive fish species (deter carp from moving upstream)
  • Improved public safety
  • Minimise erosion and sediment generation
  • Provide a cost-effective solution
  • Improved maintenance access
  • Provide a constructable solution
  • Protect recreation value of the site (maintain weir pool depth)
  • Protect heritage values (maintain weir pool depth and provide headwater necessary for flows to enter heritage tunnel)

What's happening now:

  • permits and approvals
  • spillway plan available in the document section

What's next:

  • tender for construction scheduled for October 2025
  • works anticipated to commence in February 2026.
