Project updates are provided in the tab below

Following the endorsement of the East Gippsland Sporting Facilities Plan 2023, which included the Lindenow Sports Ground Master Plan, we identified the need to construct a new pavilion incorporating female friendly changerooms, umpire changerooms, public toilets and first aid facilities at the Lindenow Recreation Reserve.

A new pavilion has been designed to Netball Victoria and AFL Guidelines and has the support of the Lindenow Football and Netball Club, Lindenow Junior Footy Club, Lindenow Bowls Club, and Lindenow Primary School.

Objective and scope

The Lindenow Recreation Reserve will be upgraded to female friendly standards. We will provide a modern, fit for purpose facility, and most importantly fully female friendly change room facilities.

Currently, there are no fit for purpose facilities for local and visiting teams. The existing toilet block, that is currently used as a changing room for netballers, will be demolished to allow for the new construction.

The new facility will be available to all sporting teams that use the Recreation Reserve, and community usage throughout the year.

The proposed works include:

  • Demolition of existing public toilet block
  • Construction of unisex player and umpire change facilities for the benefit of netball, football, other sporting user groups and local community.

Consultation and community engagement

Extensive community engagement during the development of the East Gippsland Sporting Facilities Plan 2023 identified the need for upgraded female friendly facilities across the Shire, including Lindenow Recreation Reserve. Discussions with the Lindenow Recreation Reserve Committee of Management and working group informed the development of the design for the new Pavilion.

A Project Reference Group (PRG) will be established following funding availablity. The PRG will consist of user group and community representatives to provide input into the further development of this project.

Funding

In conjunction with Lindenow Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, we are applying for a grant from Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund ‘Womens and Girls Facilities’ (Sports Regional Victoria) to construct a new Netball Pavilion.

We remain committed to working with the Lindenow community to improve local sporting facilities that support safe, inclusive participation in sport.

While applications for the construction of a joint netball and umpires’ facility were unsuccessful in two previous rounds of competitive funding, this does not mark the end of the Lindenow netball changerooms project.

Following these outcomes, Council worked closely with the Lindenow Sports Ground Committee of Management and the Lindenow Football Netball Club to review the project and refine the facility design to better meet netball needs and strengthen future funding opportunities.

An updated funding application was submitted to the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund in December 2025. Funding announcements are expected to commence from April 2026.
