Project Update 3/2/2023

Footpath works
Over the next two weeks we are working with our contractors to replace the top layer of concrete on the Bullock Island Bridge footpath.
Why?
Our contractor and officers have identified numerous superficial cracks appearing in the footpaths on both sides of the new bridge.
Structural engineers have advised the cracks would not impact the structural integrity of the bridge, however the footpath would most likely continue to crack and stain. Investigations found no reason for cracking; all cement was certified and applied correctly.
We have decided to remove the top layer of the existing footpath and replace it with new reinforced concrete to ensure the bridge remains in serviceable condition over its 100-year design life and does not have unsightly cracks.
Contractors started rectification works started this week and the works are expected to take two weeks to complete. Works will be undertaken at material cost only within the project budget.
The bridge remains open to vehicles and pedestrians.
