June 2026 Stage 2 update: The ‘missing link’ northern boardwalk

The next stage of Krauatungalung Walk, the ‘missing link’ boardwalk along the northern side of Cunninghame Arm, is now moving into delivery.

Stage 2, Section 4 will deliver a 400metre elevated boardwalk designed for all abilities. It will connect the existing foreshore pathway to the street network along Mackillops Lane, improving access for walkers, cyclists and people with access requirements.

This section is the first part of Stage 2 and an important step towards creating a safe, continuous pathway all the way to Eastern Beach.

The project also includes foreshore protection works to help reduce erosion and protect the coastline.

The contract for Stage 2, Section 4 has been awarded to Design Co Builders, a local East Gippsland contractor that successfully delivered Stage 1 of the Krauatungalung Walk.

Interpretive artwork and cultural connections

Council is progressing the design of interpretive artwork in partnership with Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation. This work will help reflect and celebrate the history, culture and ongoing connection of Traditional Owners to Country, ensuring these stories are respectfully recognised as part of the project.

Sand supply works on Bullock Island

Foreshore protection is a key part of this project. Council is working in partnership with Gippsland Ports to supply suitable sand for renourishment and sand container works.

  • Gippsland Ports will dredge sand from the Northern Arm

  • The sand will be transported to laydown area on the north side of Bullock Island

  • Council will manage the stockpile and oversee safe transport of sand to the project site

What to expect

During these works, the community may notice:

  • Increased activity on North Arm and Bullock Island, including dredging equipment, trucks and machinery

  • Temporary stockpiling of sand at Gippsland Ports laydown area

  • Construction activity along the foreshore, including noise and equipment movement

  • Temporary access changes or minor disruptions near the work areas

  • Safety signage and barriers in place to protect the public

What’s next?

Over the coming weeks, we will:

  • Hand over the site to the contractor

  • Begin dredging operations near Bullock Island to source suitable sand

  • Keep the community updated as construction progresses

  • Continue planning and design for the next stage of the walk, extending toward Eastern Beach Road

Krauatungalung Walk will be an important cultural, recreational and environmental asset for our community. Thank you for your ongoing interest and support as we move one step closer to completing this transformational coastal connection.
