Why are we updating the Community Engagement Policy?

Community influence has a positive impact on what we deliver. That’s why it’s important to have a framework that provides opportunities for residents, visitors, businesses and groups to have their say.

As part of this update, we’re strengthening how we engage with First Nations people and we’re recognising the importance of empowering children and young people to have a say on decisions that impact them.

We also wanted to give the community and key stakeholder groups an opportunity to tell us how they would like to participate in engagement programs and what methods work best for them.

How can I contribute my feedback for the draft Community Engagement Policy?

The feedback period for the Community Engagement Policy has closed.

Thank you to everyone who got involved and provided feedback on our draft Community Engagement Policy during the consultation period throughout September and October 2025.

Your suggestions will help us shape the final policy and understand more about how you would like to participate in future Council decision-making processes.

We’re reviewing what you told us, carefully considering your feedback and will let you know what we heard and what was included in the final policy when it is finalised.

What will happen to the feedback I provide?

Your feedback is important and will help us deliver inclusive and meaningful engagement programs for our communities. All feedback will be collated and considered by Council and used to inform the final version of the Community Engagement Policy.

We will then share a summary of the feedback we received and how it was used.

What level of engagement are we using for this process?

Our commitment to the community for this engagement process is to keep you informed, listen to and acknowledge concerns and aspirations, feedback and ideas, use these to inform the final policy and provide feedback on how your input influenced the decision.

This engagement process will use the inform and consult level of the IAP2 engagement spectrum.

More information can be found on page 12 of our draft Community Engagement Policy.
