Draft CMMP feedback survey
The diverse communities of East Gippsland share a love for their beautiful coastal, lake and marine areas. Over the last 12 months, we have been developing a Coastal and Marine Management Plan (CMMP) to help guide sustainable management of these unique spaces now and into the future.
Pressures on our coastal and marine areas are increasing from development and growth, a changing climate, and aging and inadequate infrastructure. Strategic, 'big picture' planning allows us to better coordinate our management and use of our coastlines. This strategic approach will ensure management initiatives balance social, cultural, environmental and economic values, and provide communities and visitors with suitable ways to enjoy our diverse and special coast sustainably.
We now have a draft CMMP available for public exhibition and comment until 24 June 2024. You can find and read the draft CMMP HERE. You have the option to read the full Plan, or you can select just those sections that relate specifically to your community. If you’re short on time, you can read the summary document HERE.
Community, rightsholder and stakeholder perspectives continue to be important to help shape the draft CMMP. Activities and discussions to date have seen us engaging and consulting with many different people – our Council staff, management agencies, representatives for the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, and our many communities across East Gippsland. These discussions have all been important in informing the Plan so far.
We’d like your input now to help us to refine the draft Plan and make sure it reflects the interests of our communities. This includes receiving your feedback on the CMMP’s over-arching vision and management principles as well as the management actions for the broader Shire and for your respective community’s locality.
