Council is currently undertaking a crucial review of waste and recycling services to better meet the evolving needs of our expanding community.

This initiative highlights our dedication to delivering accessible, cost-effective, and sustainable waste management solutions that adhere to both emerging regulatory standards and community expectations. By offering enhanced options for residents, businesses, and visitors to responsibly dispose of waste and minimise landfill contributions, we aim to align with new State Government regulations.

This review presents a chance to assess our current waste services comprehensively. This proactive approach reflects Council's ongoing commitment to reducing waste generation, promoting reuse, and maximising recycling efforts across the region.

Objective and scope

The Waste Recycling Services Review for East Gippsland focuses on achieving best value waste and recycling services through key strategies: supporting circular economy practices, ensuring regulatory compliance, increasing waste diversion efforts, minimizing environmental impacts, fostering community engagement, and setting clear strategic directions for sustainable waste management.

Consultation and community engagement

Council is undertaking the review and prepare a transition plan.

  • From April-September 2024 a desktop review and site visits will be completed across the waste facilities. They will review data and information to identify the current challenges and explore opportunities that need to be addressed over the next 10 years to shape the future of waste management in East Gippsland.
  • From July-September 2024 a community survey will be available along with pop ups and there will also be five focus group sessions across the Shire.

Survey

This survey is Council’s first step to understanding how we plan and deliver waste and recycling services in the future that's good for our community and the environment while complying with rules and guidelines. It typically takes 10-15 minutes to complete depending on your answers. By completing this survey, you will go into the running to win a $100 gift card to be used within the East Gippsland Shire.
