We know the environment is important to people living in and visiting East Gippsland. The natural environment contributes to our health and wellbeing, amenity, cultural identity, support for biodiversity, tourism and underpins much economic activity. Through proactive planning, relevant design work and strong advocacy, we want to ensure East Gippsland’s natural and built environment is sustainable, and maintains its ability to meet community needs now and in the future.
The previous Environmental Sustainability Strategy (2014-17) has been completed. And this time a 10-year strategy was developed to align with the new long-term Community Vision 2040 and the understanding that a longer term view is needed for strategic environmental outcomes.
What we heard?
East Gippsland is a large and vibrant region in a beautiful natural setting. The community place a high value on East Gippsland’s landscapes and natural environment. These themes have been strong over the years. We've also heard climate change is the greatest threat, and was identified the most by the community during the development of the latest Council Plan.
It was developed in response to community input into the Council Plan 2021-24, the Community Vision 2040, various Community Plans, a workshop with councillors and extensive consultation with the public outside the organisation.
The SURVEY HAS NOW CLOSED. Over 55 submissions made and the Strategy was downloaded 184 times.
Community feedback, recommendations and suggested priorities were reviewed and taken on board.
