Development of the Cann River Transfer Station concept design is progressing steadily.

The fourth revision of the Masterplan has now been issued by our project designer, Talis, and includes a number of thoughtful improvements. One of the key updates is a revised site entry layout, which makes use of an existing access point, helping to minimise impact on the surrounding vegetation. Our project engineers will now review this layout and provide guidance on the positioning of the gatehouse and after-hours contractor access.

We’re also pleased to report that the survey and geotechnical investigations are complete, with final reports from Talis expected shortly. Meanwhile, Native Vegetation Assessment and Cultural Heritage studies are underway, with specialist consultants engaged to support the ongoing design development.

As the Masterplan continues to evolve, we’re considering several important elements to ensure the facility is efficient, safe, and future-ready. These include:

  • Reinstating three sawtooth bays as per the original inception schedule.
  • Designing for specific waste types and volumes.
  • Enhancing traffic circulation, separating public and contractor access where needed.
  • Improving sight lines from the entry building for better staff visibility.
  • Optimising layout to reduce distances and manage costs.
  • Allocating space for uncovered green waste windrows.
  • Providing a bushfire storage area south of the entry.
  • Clearly naming each sawtooth bay by waste type.
  • Including storage for spare skip bins and equipment/machinery.

We’re committed to keeping our community informed and involved as this important project moves forward. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to shape a facility that supports sustainable waste management for Cann River and surrounds.
